Because an important part of force is lost in friction, this friction between wire and bracket is very important for clinicians. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of an angle on the friction resistance between the stainless steel bracket and wires with different diameters and materials using a sensitive measuring method. According to results; friction resistance increased as the angle increased with all materials. Surface roughness has been observed to be a factor effective on the friction between the wire and the bracket. With wires of same material, narrow diameters wires showed less friction compared to wider diametered wires. Slippery NiTi which is hardened by ion-implantation method and surface roughness is reduced, showed lower friction values than SS, NiTi and TMA wires. Multistrand wires have lower friction resistance values at all angles than SS, NiTi and TMA wires.
